The position is a permanent full-time employment. A probationary period of 6 months will apply. Start date according to agreement.

Nationalmuseum is a state authority with approximately 160 employees tasked with promoting art, art interest, and art science. The museum's collections include paintings, sculptures, drawings, and graphics from the 16th century to the turn of the 20th century, while the collections of applied arts and design, as well as portrait art, extend to the present day.

The collections are displayed in the main building at Blasieholmen, Stockholm, and at about 20 other locations including Gripsholm Castle, Läckö Castle, Nationalmuseum Jamtli in Östersund, and Gustavsberg Porcelain Museum. Nationalmuseum also conducts exhibition, program, research, and publication activities as well as lending operations. In this exciting and significant role, you will have the opportunity to work with conservation and collection management in a dynamic and inspiring environment. Your work is an important part of Nationalmuseum's mission and strategic goals, where preservation and accessibility of the collections are in focus.

Your main tasks:

  • To apply your knowledge and understanding of various treatment options, as well as the underlying ethical considerations and reasoning during the planning and implementation of both active conservation measures.
  • To register conservation documentation and other relevant information in the collection management database and damage mapping tools.
  • To participate in identifying, assessing, and analyzing risks to the collection items and to implement preventive measures according to good collection management.
  • To assist in planning and participate in exhibition work, preparation of loans and acquisitions.
  • To prepare documentation for calculating expenses within the area of responsibility and work according to established budget frameworks.
  • To participate in streamlining workflows and developing sustainable and environmentally friendly methods within the area of activity.
  • To perform other additional tasks related to the assignment.

Qualification requirements:

  • MA or BA from a university or college in the conservation of paintings.
  • At least three years of work experience as a conservator in the field after completing education.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the conservation of older paintings.
  • Experience in conservation documentation, exhibition work, and lending.
  • Experience in preventive conservation and good collection management.
  • Good language skills in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

Meritorious:

  • Experience with documentation in MuseumPlus.
  • Driving license B.

The tasks are physically demanding with daily heavy lifting. It is important to have good physical fitness, an understanding of ergonomics, and to maintain continuous training to avoid injuries. Work at other locations may occur, which involves travel and overnight stays.
